Matsumurae
7 to 9 lobed leaves, very deeply divided to near the leaf base.
Example: Acer palmatum 'Green Trompenburg"
Linearilobum 'Bamboo Leaf'
Narrow, strap-like leaves divided to the leaf base.
Example: Acer palmatum 'Beni ubi gohon'
Amoenum
Divided only up to two-thirds of the way to theleaf base
Example: Acer Palmatum 'Ichigyoji'
Dissectum
Leaf lobes very deeply divided and deeply dissected; often smaller plants; very often weeping.
Example: Acer palmatum dissectum 'Tamuke yama'
Palmatum
Leaf lobes two-thirds to three-quarters of the way to the leaf base
Example: Acer palmatum 'Beni kawa'
Dwarf
mature height not usually exceeding 6 feet
Example: Acer palmatum 'Kamagata'
